The pages have lots of bubble help. Move the cursor to a button or image and stop (without clicking) for a few seconds to see the help. Spend some time doing this on each kind of page to learn how to use the site.
Another easy way to find out how the pages work is to simply click on links, images, and buttons to see what they do. Nothing bad will happen ;-)
The Up and Down arrow buttons in the top left corner of some pages enlarge/shrink the images.
A lot of the pictures have maps that show where the picture was taken. Click the map link to access these maps. Click on a red blob to see the corresponding picture. Click on a picture in the bubble to get the main page for the picture. The maps can be panned and zoomed, like any other Google map.
Many summary pages also have maps that show the locations for all pictures on that page. Live maps with our daily routes, recorded using a GPS tracker, are mixed in with the pictures. Click on a red box to get the timestamp for a location.
This is travel photograpy, not photo journalism, almost all pictures have been edited in some way or other. Most edits simply tweaks the contrast, align and crop the image. Click the This image has been edited by Soren link to see the original image.
